I am trying to clean up my act
But I'm not sure how, that's a fact
Been like this since my first breath
Change, can try if you think it's best

He came in, told me I'd always be a loser
Always an attitude, dumb to the bone for sure
Don't want to talk about it, you don't understand
Just take and take, never giving a helping hand

As I stand there I'm sure I'm naked
Stripped bare by words then left for dead
My insides wrenched from me, must be bloody
Can't understand, hurting words, my mind muddy

I'm dragging myself away like a kicked dog
So much pain from words, mind in a fog
No more, no more, please, no more
I have to leave forever, close that door

Sometimes I think it was all a dream
Words like razors, still stupid, always the scream
Just want some quiet, can't hear to think
Afraid of shadows, it could all be back in a blink

His anger now my little one feels
As she tries with grown-ups to deal
Now she is told, lose that attitude fast
Your just like your Mother, the die is cast

His anger over his failings ever growing
He can't grow enough, his childishness showing
Big of mouth, small in caring or giving
To his son what message is he sending

Time is blowing away the hurting words
These two grow stronger while he gets worse
The scars don't show except in their eyes
While, another chance, forgive, he always cries

I know all this, too, will pass as we grow
But it's hard to see my little one try to cope
Can't he see his words are killing any love
When he is alone will he remember, gone by his shove

Mother passes strength to her daughter
Always there if she should faulter
His attitude his own birth defect
All change for him, his mind is set

When all have left and he cries, Why
Just a bad day or just words is his cry
His lost loves, the brused ones healing
Starting over, looking ahead, sharing feelings

Mother,
Well now that you got that out of your system
It's clear sailing ahead. And there is always tomorrow.

It seems extremely well-told
such pain this cycle inflicts
I truly hope those that live this
get beyond it and find a method of loving the person
but staying away
