I asked her as I saddled,
"Honey, will you go with me"?
She answered, "I need time to think.
Two weeks, or maybe three"...

"A posse's close behind me-
I've no time to stick around...
I'll send for you from Mexico,
Tonight I'm border bound".

I spurred on through the sagebrush,
Mesquite and chapparal.
Where white men never venture,
And the wolves and panthers prowl.

My lineback dun is tiring-
But I know his wind is sound...
He'll get me to the river,
For tonight I'm border bound.

A thousand miles of twisting course-
She separates two lands...
I have to reach the waters-
Of the lazy Rio Grande.

The dust is still behind me-
And a fair bit nearer, too.
They must've gotten remounts...
Now, I don't know what to do.

If they catch me they will kill me,
String me up, or gun me down...
But if they do, I'll go out fighting-
For tonight I'm border bound.

Kept me in suspense like a good paperback western.... guess I'll buy the next issue to find out how it all ends.

This reminds me of the song by the late Marty Robbins, called El Paso.  Hope your story has a happier ending. Enjoyed reading it.

Sir Slinger:  This one could be a song... I hear the Eagles performing as I read.  As always, great story telling.  Peace!
