For the longest time
Anger and guilt swept over me
Keeping me frozen solid with fear
Bound by heartache and sorrow
Trying so hard, but unable to break the chains
Watching as the fear and regret
Slowly destroy my heart and soul

The demons I once called angels
Tearing into my heart
Bleeding it dry, until there is nothing left
Hanging cold and motionless
Shackled to this wall of loneliness
Wanting to be released from my pain
But then, a woman appears from nowhere
Softly stroking my cheek
As she whispers a soft lullaby
Looking up with a gentle smile
As she looks at me with soft loving eyes
She whispers something to me
I never heard before
I stare at her, my eyes questioning

With another lovely smile,
she whispers, a little louder than before
"I believe in you."
"Break free… I see the light in your heart"
"be the man you should be"
my eyes brighten, did she really say it?
That she… believed in me?
She places a tender kiss upon my lips
Reassuring me of what I heard
Suddenly, warmth springs from within
Filling me with hope. The strength to fight
To break free from my bonds

I struggle with all of my newfound strength
To break my chains
One by one, the chains break free
Feeling the sorrow and pain
Slowly disappear, vanishing from existence
Then, a beautiful light soon engulfs my being
I look to her, asking with my eyes
"what is this light that surrounds me so?"
once again her smile reassures me
that everything will be alright

with a soft whisper she tells me
"it is the light of your happiness"
"the light of my love for you"
I retreat from my battle for a moment
Pondering, admiring her words in my mind
with one last tug, the final chain breaks free
no longer am I a slave to my guilt
but free… free to be the man I hope to be
free to show the woman who loves me so
all of  the love and admiration I hold for her
the feelings that will only grow with time
love and friendship, now and always

Fear destroys the mind, depression destroys the soul... only love and compassion may save you from death.

across the land of dreams. In your heart, I'd always be.

I quite enjoyed this......
The story drew me in .......

yes,....break free
be all that u r meant to be....

when I read your line
"With another lovely smile,
she whispers, a little louder than before
"I believe in you." "
I remembered Kenny Rogers' song {she believes in me} I have found it quite touching.....

Thank you

Very touching verse of change and victory. Believing is a wonderful gift to give someone you love.
Sincerely,
Regina
