The rain splashed
Down.
We danced barefoot
In the cooling
Puddles,
Felt relief
Of damp air
After
Storm winds.

Lit the hurricane
Lantern
For the table
On the porch;
Oddly
We listened
To Billy Idol
(Eighties,
After all.)

To me she said, "Stand
Here.
Tap this table.
Tap it like
This."
She showed me.
"Tell me what
you
Feel," she said.

I stepped into her
Place,
Tapped my
Finger on the
Table.
A sudden chill
Ran through
Me.
I shrank away.

"Did you see
Him?"
She asked me.
"Yes, I did.
What
Is it?"
"I don't know.
But
Isn't that scary?"

To this, I had to
Agree;
For there had
Been a shadow in
Black
Standing right
Behind me;
But
She saw him first.

So simple and mysterious. I really like this very much. Quiet and reflecting back on old times. Thank you.

I really enjoyed reading this and it took me back to the wonderful eighties, although I hate to admit it but I reckon the seventies were pretty good (showing my age now!!)
Take care......Sue

...you sure it wasn't the shadow of your finger tapping, cast by the hurricane lantern just lit...?  Interesting write;  left me with a "hmmm..."...

Hi everyone! Thanks for reading and commenting.

Poetic Knight, it wasn't Billy Idol that inspired this...it was really a perfect summer night...except for the strange tapping thing...

Mark, there was no actual shadow cast by the lantern...neither of us saw a shadow on the wall when we faced toward the wall, watching the other tap the table...this was seen out of peripheral vision, to the side and behind...

Interesting...  perhaps proof towards the alleged existance of what are termed "Shadow People"... (seriously!)
