In a corporeal internship...

0 posted 2001-07-14 12:01 PM

Tonight I found myself surrounded
By people whom I did not know
And as I tried to maintain grounded
Amidst the shuffling to and fro,
I wondered how it would have been
If you had been here, next to me
Comforting me with your grin,
My shelter in your company
In your absence, I exist
A soul who's incomplete
And though I try hard to resist,
My thoughts of you repeat.
I wonder right now what you're doing...
My eyes assume a vacant stare...
Do you feel the same ensuing
Pain of missing and despair?
How much longer must we wait?
This separation's so unfair...
Imprisoned in this somber state
Because it's you for whom I care...

The lonely in a crowd feeling is so difficult. And memories are sometimes the best company.

Sy, it's all a long phase -- it's the frame-of-mind which makes it seem relative...  Thanks for the read & reply.

Sandra, doesn't that feeling reek (wreak)?  And it's not necessarily due to loved ones not being present, either...

To understand the value of one hour ask two lovers waiting to meet.  My God but you're good!!!! I love your style, it's how I try to write but I lack your talent, my own work never sounds as good.  A wonderful voice you have, I hope to hear it often.

Virginia, indeed it was.  We've all felt this way with someone, I'm sure...  Actually, I think the longest time of all may be:  realizing.  That's one that isn't always obvious, especially to love-clouded hearts and eyes...  Thanks for your comments.

pure_innocence, you're humbling me with your flattery...  Thank you, sincerely, for your very kind words, but I think it's all relative...  I've seen poems in this forum to which I aspire in terms of form, rhyme, vocabulary and content, so there's always more to learn.  Poetry is a craft which can always be perfected, as long as we don't lose sight of the real purpose it serves which is to express and communicate.  Don't be so hard on yourself -- we're all our own worst critics, you know.  I look forward to reading some of your works, and thanks again for your read and reply.

Yes, James, I think we all do, in some form or other...  Thanks for the sentiment.
