          “LISTEN TO MY HEARTBEAT”
                           by

Many nights I lie here in my lonely bed,
        listening to my heart,
as it beats in my chest…
And I close my eyes, and have many thoughts,
        what life would be like,
                if only, I could rest…

Would there be a gracious, and caring woman,
        that would hold me tight,
                and wipe away my fears…
Or would there be someone, out of nowhere,
to stay for a while, then leave me,
                with so many tears…

Listen to your own heart beating, as it may,
what is it saying to you,
                thumping merrily along…
Are your thoughts such as mine, when you listen,
or has it been a long time,
                since they have been gone…

So you see, your heart is just like mine,
        the only difference is time,
and I find that pretty neat…
For a day will come, when I will know the answer,
as I lie here in this lonely bed,
                while listening, to my heartbeat…

Bill, you present a message here worth considering.  It's interesting how a lot of times it's all a matter of "displacement" -- how generations will advance to new wisdom while handing down their former levels of understanding to the "new class of students" who are ready to take their places, but in the end, hopefully, all have learned the truths which ultimately turn out to be very simple anyway.  Nicely written, Bill.

"If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn."

"Everyone can hear;  few can listen."

yes, we all listen to our heart beats, and many are lonely in the midst of company, maybe we need to be beside ourselves to stop being lonely, at least then we'd be working together on a different emotion

this is very heartfelt, Bill, one to which it is too easy to relate
