Plateaus

this naissance, brought
in at sea level, location:
Queen of Angels Hospital,
given zero chance
of survival, should have taught
something
but parents are strange
that way

they had lived their fears,
why burden babes, for every
moment after had
provided no anxiety

so she thrived in their
lights and shadows
never understanding she
was a survivor
always feeling privileged

in some strange way

life, ascendant in steps,
sandwiched between decades
of women raising and
women upraising
never fitting
one or the other
but always having one desire…

to write

at first it was nothing more
than enchantment of
fine penmanship,
legends that fingered hearts,
giving raison d'être to shed tears,
                  without reason
rationale:  lexis, exposed

age three, reading
by five, composing make-believe
stories, until one day,
in anger, someone said to her

grow up

so she put away childish toys
but still hummed Mairsy Doats

grew a little more, a young
adult walking
humming Puff

came into adulthood,
continually chose
good over evil

watched friends skirt vices while she
did all things in proper order

plateauing for a while
almost stagnating on restrained air,
but not quite, for all
around her was
contribution to senses,

she paid heed, ascertained,
harbored ideas for later

she stirred from one
plateau, on an upward climb
when she discovered
deadwood
required discarding
rocks can be moved
mountains should be climbed
pinnacles might be reached
if the air would last

she disciplined herself to breath
slow and deep,
not to stop

she is at a plateau now.  She
has seen deserts, re-visited
sea level now and again
when pushed down, but

she gets back up, having made it
one more night,
observing horizons beckoning,
gazes at two willing feet,
begins yet one more trek
toward the first sun’s ray

There is never anything you can't reach if you just go for it, I really, really, liked this one, and it liked me too!

Lady In White-
WOW!  You never cease to amaze me with your pennings.
This just tugs at my heart...

       "age three, reading

in anger, someone said to her

       grow up

so she put away childish toys

   And this...

       "she stirred from one
       plateau, on an upward climb
       when she discovered
       deadwood
       required discarding
       rocks can be moved
       mountains should be climbed
       pinnacles might be reached
       if the air would last"

   ...just AWESOME!
   Incredible write, my friend..
