(I am so sorry to return on a downbeat note, but I had a recent dream that has deeply saddened me with anxiety, and I just had to get it out)

Lilac Lament
By: Noah Eaton
7/10/01

I thought I already had lost you
You slipped from my hands and out of my life
I've never been so scared before
I thought our time together was over, there in silence you lie

You always give me spring when you are close to me
I was a rabbit hopping in euphony on your warren
Now I feel the winter breeze sweeping down my spine
Afraid I may lose you forever, leaving my heart barren

Now you are sobbing in my arms
I can feel my heart breaking
Your angelic smile is now but a mar
My heart is aching
And I remember all the romantic times we've had
Knowing we were meant to be
In your soft eyes of lilac
I can see us both together crying...

How is it going to be?
Oh God, help us be together forever
Save her, oh save her please
I can feel my lungs begin to shiver

I sing a love song to you as I kneel beside your bed
I bend down to kiss you and you hold me like a girl and her teddy bear
I burst into tears uncontrollably that this may be our last kiss
Saddened to think if I'll ever hold you again, as I stroke your hair
And I reach my hand into my pocket and pull out a sympathy verse
Tears splash the paper as I read it to you
And I hold your hand scared, telling her everything will be alright
That love bears all, love never fails the true

How is it going to be?
Oh God, tell me it's not too late
Save her, oh save her please
Give her the strength

I can’t stand to see her like this any longer
I can’t wait to hear if she’ll recover
I can’t keep myself together, this fate is tearing me apart
Help me save her crying heart

Oh God, save her please
I have fallen to my knees
Please don’t leave her heart bleeding in my hands
I feel all my pride is disappearing

I watch the doctors pull you away
And you scream from the top of your throat
Like I was a soldier going to war today
That you will always love me and you will never let go
Through your tears you pray for convalescence
And I hand a lilac to the doctor, asking to put it in her vase by her bed
Praying that it will blossom and our love will go on and flourish
And I stare at your photo in my pocket, hoping it won’t be the last time I see you again

Please don’t leave me…my love

Hi Noah, this sure was a bad nightmare. Very lovingly written, though.

Tucked in this lilac lament~
This .....

'I was a rabbit hopping in euphony on your warren'

Quite the line of imagery !
Nicely done, poet~

You do know what happened don't you?  You sweet poet, were reading too many of mine about the death of my friend, and you see we take those thoughts of death to bed with us, well this was an awesome write of a terrible nightmare, and I have to tell you that it is definitely a "keeper" in my library.  Great work.
