consolation from the damned
(on the death of someone
I didn't know)

Sometimes it takes more to get through to me
than anything I understand.
Evil I know well enough.
But it is the good that slips too often
by my sight
as I look constantly into the night.

This is not an excuse.
I ask for no special handling.
Nor do I take pride in it.
Nor do I explain, or can.

But there are things I see in light
here and there
that tell me what I am.

I would be lying if I said
I knew the man
or paid much attention
to him or his work when he was alive.
Or know this loss you feel
that I can only imagine
multiplied by my worst fears.

I would look the other way,
but there is this feeling I hear
in the outpouring
of so many of the good.
I do not know,
and there is nothing I can say or add.

So I can only offer this,

small consolation
from one odd corner
of the damned.

yes, some things just can't be explained

your poem certainly epitomizes that

I'm intrigued by the loss of one not known and the finding of one's self in the light here and there.  This is a frightful comparison.... to think that one can die without knowing their own identity.  Your peom leaves me thinking.........  Oh, I really liked your format.

Thank you all very much.  I wasn't sure how you would take this.  Thank you again.

Bob: Perhaps, if it bothers you, this is a good thing.
