~*As The Willow Bends*~
by Mysteria

I left to get the ribbon
you wanted for your hair,
but in the blink of someone else’s eye,
soon you were gone, taken.
Where there any words left unsaid?
We were set adrift on a silent sea of sorrow.
There was nowhere to anchor my friend.

For days, just the two of us cuddled close,
contently sailing, and just waiting.
We joked about you teaching me to dance,
and how you were the wind beneath my wings.
Willow, you were always my hero, always.
You pushed me to be the best I could be.
So we just laughed, loved, sang, reminisced,
enjoying an outcry of love from young dancers,
friends, and people wanting to kiss you.
So hard was it to say goodbye to you Willow.

Suddenly, you softly whispered, “hold me”.
I climbed up beside you like I used to do
and as I gently held you in my arms,
a few threads of your red hair twisted in my hand.
I held them like the spool of love we shared,
for so many years, that sewed our hearts together.
You smiled, as you held my hand and ever so slowly,
you shut your eyes Jenna, and just seemed to be sleeping.
I tried to gently wake you but knew,
as your hand began to chill in mine,
I had lost my blue ribbon ballerina.
Now, even in death, your scent was of freesia,
and I had to breathe you in one last time.

I tied that blue ribbon in your hair,
just as the ribbons that adorned you for years,
as you danced, oh Jenna, how you danced.
The wind welcomed you with awaited appetite.
You twirled like a cat chasing a string,
who couldn’t follow fast enough.
There were always a dozen or so young,
little ballerinas watching in awe,
spellbound and waiting to someday be a Willow too.

Then they came, and ever so gently,
pryied the spool of your silken hair from my hands,
untying a pact of love made 34 years ago,
that we would be friends forever and ever.
My Jenna, my friend, no longer of this plain.
I was begging to come along with you as
the wind tugged at my heart and hands.
I let go Jenna, I want you to know I cried,
But I kept my promise and I let go.

I sat there in the emptiness,
looking outside at the clouds that
had always joined us in adventures.
You wanted to die on a sunny day and it was.
I went outside with a small piece of the ribbon.
I threw it up in the air, and through tears,
said a prayer for your safe journey.
It seems to sail on the sky forever,
but somehow it slowly drifted back to me,
Landing in a pirouette next to my heart.
It danced Jenna, it took flight and danced!!

I stood there simply whispering your name,
I will now forever see you in the willow trees
that sway and dance in all seasons.
I felt the wind and earth agree with my thoughts.
The azure ocean will wet her lips tonight
on the tears of the moon,
While a tiara of stars, and a cape of ebony
sky shall dance while adorning you.
Tonight the earth for one second will stand still
out of respect for the love of a dancer,
who will always and forever more be loved.

And on the horizon I see your journey begin,
As gracefully as the willow bends.
Enjoy the journey my friend, and dance!

ohhhhhhh, Sharon!  I am just completely lost in a river of tears now!  How difficult this must have been for you to face and stand so bravely beside your lifelong friend as she drifted away from her journey in this life.  But you have such a beautiful gift of loving others, and it radiates into the skies like a shooting star, and draws many people to your side...so many who adore you and value your friendship.  I am one of those fortunate ones...and I am sooo proud to have been blessed with the beautiful gift of your friendship.
Sharon...this touched my heart so deeply, and I know all of the things you have done over the course of the past several days in offering comfort, support, and love to your friend.  There is no gift more precious than the gift of a loyal friend who loves you unconditionally, and is there until the very end.  The angels in Heaven are singing songs that hold your name in recognition of the many caring and loving things you do for all of those around you.
This is a heavenly masterpiece, my friend...and a priceless and precious dedication to your friend.
Hugs and much love to you, always, dawn

Sharon, I've just now registered....It is  with moist eye-lids I have to express how this piece has touched me. I could feel the love and tenderness in this dedication to your most beloved friend. You are rich indeed to have loved and shared so many years with someone that has brightened your life. It is with a heavy heart that I write this, because I know the pain of such a loss. You have done her proud with your artistic wonder. With a smile on her face and love in her heart she knows how much you care and will be your angel forever. Thanks for sharing a corner of your soul with us. Much love .... as I extend my sincere sympathies..... Maggie ((~.~))

Kit, I want to thank you for your poem today (I really needed that one).

I truly want to thank each of you for your very kind words. You know, it is not until you lose a real friend do you realize how much you love them.  Reality sets in and you realize you can't phone them anymore, or bump them with your elbow, or crack jokes about their hairdo, etc.  Then a second reality comes into place, where you have to talk to them so you search for their soul in your mind, and if you really try, this happens and they are still part of you as memories.  I appreciate your thoughts and kindness so much as I never realized just how close we were until it was almost too late, so I shall now celebrate her life starting tomorrow. I sure loved that girl!

Mabel, your poem was absolutely beautiful, and I left you a little word on it, thank you.

I apologize for not thanking you individually, but I am busy with arrangements, etc. and have Jenna's family here as well, so I hope you know each of you are very special, and thank you again.

If I made you smile today then I did my job!

To all of you who read this
and felt the pain I feel, I thank you.  Today is a new day, a day of remembering, and with it came a smile of days held close to my heart in the past.  I want to thank you all for your kindness and good wishes, the friendship here at Passions is like nowhere else.  I showed this to my friend's husband who could not believe that people who had never met would care about each other so much, and show such compassion, BUT he doesn't know us too well does he?  Thanks again, you have absolutely no idea how I appreciated all this, and somehow needed it.  I didn't think this was too good, but now through your lovely comments I will insert it into the program for Friday, thank you for also helping me get through a very bad day my friends at Passions.

If I made you smile today then I did my job!

A final thank you to you all for being so very kind as this has been really difficult for me. However through some of you I came to realize she still lives through me and as long as I keep those memories alive or pass them on so she goes on.  Her finale (as she wanted it called) is today at 10:00 a.m. so I will not be saying goodbye but instead to have a safe journey until we meet again.  Thank you all so much.

I want to thank you all for reading this tribute to my friend.  I am making a special page for her on my web page called "Willow's Ways" but will write each of the memories here first.  Her daughter has asked me to do this for her, and her children, as she said she never knew of two friends so close as her Mother and I.  Even as an angel her spirit still lives in all that I see, and feel, for she is forever a part of me, always will be!  Thank you all so much for you very kind words.
