This poem was written for an online gaming community known as New Dawn, on the suggestion of one of the members all the members are known as ponies, doesn't really make sense but there you go, anyway this one was written at their request and I hope that it has some of the same appeal. Unfortunately most of the jokes won't be apprant

Faithful Ponies

When sleep falls into watchful eyes
And tired heads fall by the side
The shadows held in dark shrouds awake
And cast a single jealous eye
Upon the purses of men a sleeping
To lift the burden of their weight
As they sneak from murky holes
The snarling pack does emerge in full
And show to all their razor fangs
With putrid breath they start their call
And thousands race towards the horns
To strike with fury at hearts of men
And rape the fruits of their hard labour
But not all Is lost for those that sleep
As in their midst a pony brays
When breaking free it stands to fight
With hooves it kicks the dark claws back
And wakes the weary eyes from dream
So with sword in hand they bravely leap
Into a battle with the night
And howling wolves begin retreat
As dawn begins to light the sky
And the birds begin to sing great songs
Of a brave pony in the night
With a heart of steel and without fear
That defends the purse of sleeping men
As the shadows ready their attack
And stands until the new dawn arises
Faithful to it’s masters side.

Rhonda says hi, by the way, and she likes this one. I actually like it too. It's really really well written in my opinion, so keep it up, okay?

Zu!  My man!  Long time no reply, nay?

It's your old pal Riverwood - in a new skin... that's all.

Anywho...

I loved reading this... it reminded me of what you like doing in your poetry.  Vivid imagery, that combines a dark setting with fluid shifts and segments...

I love your talent... even if you stole my taste in formats...

Hoping to read again, Zu.

This is a most interesting piece. The online gaming community you've written about in such a vivid context sound more like their own country fighting a battle then anything else. You've tied in some important images very well. I enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing it.

Imagination=nostalgia for the past, the absent; it is the liquid solution in which art develops the snapshots of reality.

I am glad you all enjoyed it, this peice was mostly written for my own amusement more than anything and I really tried to keep it quiet light, I guess the jokes aren't obvious as you really need to know about the community to understand it, but I am glad that it has some sort of universal appeal.
