This isn't my favorite...

Even in the darkness, this pitch black abyss
I cannot escape my doomed existence
No matter how hard I try to slip into the night
To block it off and close my eyes
Pretend I am asleep,
And this is nothing more than a horrific nightmare
But this is no dream and I'm not asleep
And reality is waiting for me right outside that door
Waiting,stalking, hoping I will slip
Cause once I start to fall it's a long way down
They say once you hit bottom you can only move up
But what if there was no bottom
I keep reaching out
Praying I will finally crash to the ground
But I don't and I never will
So I slide back into a constant state of unconsciousness
My own comatose bliss
And I continue to fall, oblivious

Wow, I was really touched by this, especially this line:

"They say once you hit bottom you can only move up
But what if there was no bottom"

I have so very often felt like this, when it seems as though nothing could get worse, it does. Thank you for sharing this, it is probably the poem I can relate to the most.

Jon, this is outstanding yet so heartbreaking at the same time. Your poetry always did impress me beyond any considerable measure and this is no exception.

How very true. Reality often plays this game better and for longer than we can hold out. Hence why it's been around for so many hundreds of thousands of years. I often wonder if there is any bottom at all when you look around the take into consideration all the crap you've got to endure every day.

It's a well thought out and very descriptive piece of how you're feeling. I love it and I hope you'll be ok, Jon. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed reading it.
