Sitting alone
no one to listen
I hear my own heartbeat
as it starts to quicken

faster and faster
it's picking up pace
almost as if
I am running in a race

the harder it beats
the more it hurts
all because of
those few little words

I say nothing's wrong
that everything's okay
but all I want to do
is run far far away

Get away from this madness
find a place to call my own
that's all that I'm asking
when I say "leave me alone"

Do you not understand
that I can't change what's wrong?
it's only been a few years
but it feels like so long

I feel like I
am just going to burst
like a knife cutting through me
Oh, how it hurts

No matter what happened
you showed love for me
even after the time
I snapped off your little tree

From combines and cornfields
to your big comfy chair
and that time that you let me
cut my own hair

Where ever you went
I always tagged along
and you never got mad
when I did something wrong

The time we had together
was cut way to short
we didn't have time
to finish building my fort

You left so quick
without a goodbye
as I remember that night
I am starting to cry

I miss you so much
I want to turn back time
even it only to say
"I love you" one last time

All I want
is to see your face
and tell you how much
I miss your embrace

No matter what happens
or where likfe takes me in this world
I want you to know
I will still be "Daddy's Little Girld"

*My father died 15 years ago this Christmas. I was only 6 years old. It has always been a hard time for me, but this year it was even harder...

wow!!! i can honestly say that this is one of the best pieces that i have ever read in my ENTIRE LIFE. you out-did yourself this time! and i feel your pain hun. it's full of soooo much emotion and hurt yet it's "darklike" (if that makes sence). best 2 stanzas...right here:

The time we had together
was cut way to short
we didn't have time
to finish building my fort

No matter what happens
or where life takes me in this world
I want you to know
I will still be "Daddy's Little Girl"

good write. remember who i am when you become famous one day :-P

Wow, I'm amazed! This poem---well, it's safe to call this a tearjerker. I LOVE the way you recalled memories---and contrasted them to your current situation. I really felt the emotion---I never knew my father. He abandoned me and my mother---I'm glad to hear that your time with you father was filled with love...then again I'm sad to hear your loss. I'd be having a hard time still too...Godspeed.

The trick is to know when to walk away---and TO KNOW WHEN TO RUN!!!

It was a great poem. I'm sorry for what happened. *huggles* "Everything's fine"
