Lights are shining,
Whispers left on vulnerable ears.
Girls frightened all around her,
Who have been doing this for years.
Her teeth are pearly white,
Her hair is beautiful locks of brown.
Her eyes sparkle,
At the millions around.
"look over here!",
"smile!".
Every picture she is told,
Is worth all the while.
"Miss teen USA",
She repeats slowly in her head.
Competing for the crown is suppose to be wonderful,
She'd rather be home sleeping instead.
Never was much for the glamour,
The glitzes of Fame.
She's just my best friend,
With an ordinary name.
Now she's propped up on a pedistal,
Fake smile plastered on her face.
Knowing that with one little mess up,
Anyone could take her place.
She doesnt want to let her daddy down,
Her mother looks so proud.
She looks at me in the audience,
She knows i'll always be around.
I help her with her make-up,
Ran frantically back stage.
Told her she was doing great,
She was in a daze.
She doesnt like who she is,
Doesnt know why she's here.
Wants to leave but is afraid,
That her parents will shed tears.
She's living millions of people's dreams,
Soaking it all in as much as she can,
She feels so alone,
Like she doesnt have one single friend.
Its all fake it seems,
The smiles, sparkles and pearls.
She's gorgeous yes, but people forget,
she's just an ordinary girl.

This is a great read! I agre no matter how superficial we look...we're all just normal people! It's good---What's your inspiration?

Then it comes to be that soothing light at the end of your tunnel...

This is really sad to think that someone is doing this to please their parents. I feel for your friend. She needs to find the courage to stand up to them and say no if she doesn't want to do it.

I liked the read. Thanks for sharing it.

Very nice poem, I enjoyed it. I'm sorry that your friend has to go through such torments though just to please her parents, but then, I'm sure a lot of us probably have gone through the same sort of thing to one extent or another. I hope everything works out in the end.

This is really good.  I guess everyone always seems to forget that Celebs, sports stars, and even Miss Teen USA are really people before they are whatever it is that makes them famous.  I really enjoyed reading this.  Great write.

Shugar ---  This poem tackles a problem that has been around for ages.  Can't your friend sit down with her parents and tell them how she feels about all this?  Communication is always a good thing you know.  I hope things do work out for her.
