I look back now and find that my memories are hazy,
I swore I wouldn’t forget but my mind is getting lazy,
Now mom is still my hero and I will forever be Grandpa’s girl,
But while I was busy living, the scenery was changing like I was in a tilt-a-whirl

I still remember when recess was the highlight of the day,
And when Momma always knew exactly what to say,
I’ve been engaged 6 times, all before I was ten,
Back when no one cared if you were fat or thin,

When your biggest fear was Australia, not debt or pain or death,
When energy was boundless, and you were never out a breath,
They don’t stereo-type a five year old by their name and what they wear,
It didn’t matter what music you listened to or how you wore your hair,

You were innocent till proven guilty instead of the other way around,
An auto-shop or up-scale mall could never compare to a good playground,
You had blind faith and trust, so you never questioned God, or you mom or dad,
You believed they were never wrong and that they’d always know if you’d been bad,

Every owie and booboo could be healed with a single kiss,
French fries and a swing set would ensure unending bliss,
Your dreamed of growing up so you could stay awake past eight,
You didn’t appreciate an early bedtime or getting to sleep in late,

M&M’s were more valuable then money because you could eat them,
You could be impulsive, live for the moment, cater to your every whim,
Homework was graded with stars, rewarded with candy and pop,
You just wanted to laugh and play, didn’t think you’d ever stop,

Sure there were tears and sadness, but they were quickly chased away,
You didn’t plan and live for tomorrow you just enjoyed your today,
Death wasn’t too scary, though not that you gave it much thought,
You focused on living instead of dying and gave it all you got,

You could grow up to be President, or a teacher, or doctor, or priest,
The world wasn’t so scary growing up didn’t bother you in the least,
Dreams were carried on stars that were just within your reach,
You didn’t understand liberty, justice, or the freedom of speech,

You could dig through the earth to China with just a shovel in your hand,
You could build a plane, fly round the world and never have to land
The tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, and Boogee Man were very much alive,
It was Santa and not Prince Charming that you waited for to arrive,

Kissing boys gave you kooties, and there was gold at the rainbows end,
Enemies never lasted long and you were rarely found without a friend,
Time flies by fast but I'm immortalizing every memory, every face,
And I know that we will meet again, someday, somehow, someplace.

Hey everybody, it's been a long while since my last post, school started up and I've gotten really busy.  I've missed your support and reading all of your works, hope you enjoy this one. Australia was a dark corner we were sent to in kindergarten to be punished, not the actual country.

I'm glad you cleared up that Australia thing. I was thinking, 'HEY! What's so bad about australia?!?!' lol

This piece is awesome though. I like the way you recreate childhood visions and make them app[ear so innocent. Ahhh...how i long for those days again. Time is always simpler when you are a child. Nothing really matters unless it's your birthday/christmas and last day of school.

"I still remember when recess was the highlight of the day,
And when Momma always knew exactly what to say,
I’ve been engaged 6 times, all before I was ten,
Back when no one cared if you were fat or thin,"
That part made me smile. The mock engagements are always fun to look back on.

Thanks for the smile. *click for the library*

You did quite well on this one. I truly enjoyed the poem and hope to see you post more.
Great job here.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.
