"God is dead"
-- Nietzsche

I walk'd the sandy beaches looking out for meaning.
I waited longer than all of you, holding,
Reclining, hoping, gazing for some gleaning
Or something not a part of life...

The world just pass'd me by, staring blankly,
Then going on about the day of life quickly,
Investing, buying selling, talking frankly
About their wives or some other lovers who felt much better.

I thought I'd find the meaning, hope and special answers
To questions I've had for over ten years longer
Than most normal people living as verbal fencers
And sweet-talking sexual fools of passionate swarms.

But in the end there was nothing but myself and
The winds howling about through cracked films of
Constructions we made a long long time before, and
Little kids crouching in the corners, hiding from
"Camazotz"
Hoping for answers
To prayers millenia old.

All I could do upon hearing that howling sound...
I could only ask to myself, as I stared at all
The dead and rotten bodies...
Who killed meaning?

"If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh"

-- Magus

Now this I truly like. You've written about some scenarios here that are a typical occurance. However, when you write about them, a person cannot help but look at them in a different light.

"I thought I'd find the meaning, hope and special answers
To questions I've had for over ten years longer
Than most normal people living as verbal fencers
And sweet-talking sexual fools of passionate swarms."

Those lines just made me smile. Out of cynicism or a peculiar sense of humour, I'm not sure but they still made me smile.

The last few lines were a good send off to the piece as they just dropped a bombshell at the end. "Who killed meaning?" A meaningful question posed but with no answer.

Well done on this, Kevin. One for the library and to study no doubt.

~AF~

"Kelly's my Hero!" "No, Kelly's your heroine." "Kelly has heroin??" "What?"
