A squat gray building
Bricks lay low across its skin.
Winter is drawn upon the city ground
As it lightly snows.
A harsh light glares across
The clear glass of my window
Hungrily seeking some kind of flesh
To freeze and sacrifce
Before the wintry cold
But it only finds glass
And my reflection
Against the window pane
Laughing.
I go into the bathroom and close the door
To keep the light from finding me.
It is a game
Of hide and seek.
And I am winning.
Or cheating at least.
I wash and dress
Into my clothes for work
Worn a million times, yet no one
No one ever seems to remember
Because everyone tries to forget.
The light finds me again
And laughs because it found me.
I tell it to go away,
Yet it only rises higher in triumph.
Glaring at its reflection,
I put on my heavy coat
And trudge down the stairs
And onto the New York streets
Towards work.
The sun follows me
Or tries to at least
For the buildings tower above it
And block the light
From finding me.
And I walk in triumph
Yet I do not rise
For the seekers will find me...

=====
*sigh* I miss winter. Don't call me crazy. I know I am...

-Leah

Winter is my fave season too for a variety of reasons too numerous to list here.

I love this poem.  It's one of those things you want to print out and read everday before you get ready. Thanks for the read

Well done here. I enjoyed this one. The title was rockin'. Leah, you've been posting awesome poetry lately. Keep it up.

Oooh Leah. Very good work. Although it's written much more simpler than your other pieces it still has the whole element of mystery to it. The end throws you off completely but the whole game between you and the sun was very original.

Really great work. Keep 'em coming.
