In an upside-down garden

We got stuck in the same homeroom,
with a teacher we didn't like,
and no one we could really talk.

You sat next to an empty desk,
I sat next to Kosinski,
the "most popular" dork in school.

During class I would sneak away,
and sit at your empty desk,
in the corner in the back of the room.

Atleast until the teacher yelled at me,
to get back to my own desk,
because I was disrupting our "learning enviornment".

We were best friends that whole year,
we did everything together,
and sat by each other at lunch.

We told jokes together,
always laughing at our own inside jokes,
the ones they didn't understand.

We were a mystery to everyone,
all the teachers loved to hate us,
all the other kids left us alone.

We were Alyssa and Catherine,
the "weird ones",
who carry notebooks everywhere.

That year in seventh grade,
we always hung out together,
and were on each other's team in gym.

During summer break,
We went to the mall and movies,
and you burnt me my first Em cd.

We came back in eighth grade,
and were in the same homeroom again,
and you got to sit right next to me this time.

We cracked on the teacher,
and told jokes all the time,
and it was just like in seventh grade.

You were my best friend,
and I would tell you anything,
and you would tell me everything I missed.

Something changed,
cuz then you started to leave me,
and you'd still hang out but it wasn't the same.

We'd sit in the stairwell after school,
and read our stories to each other,
cuz we could trust eachother.

We sat by eachother at lunch,
talking about the food together,
until the day something happened.

A teacher took something from a friend,
something that was mine,
a bunch of pictures of people.

It wasn't a big deal,
except some of those pictures were weird,
and the teachers wouldn't understand the meaning.

I guess you thought I blamed you for it,
but I never ever did,
and so you say that's the reason you don't call.

We're not best friends anymore,
we don't even talk at all, and I wonder why,
because Catherine, i thought you were my best friend.

It's too bad I'm not as wonderful a person as people say I am, because the world could use a few people like that.

It's a good poem, but definately sad. Your problem sounds kinda petty for being such good friends, I'm no pyschiatrist or however you spell it, but I would say it sounds like you 2 should work things out.Good poem and I hope all goes well with the situation.

I'm w/ Jon. Quite a petty problem. You 2 should definetly work it out.
I have a best friend...Brooke. One of my best friends since the 1st day of Kindergarden. LOL- SO many fights...Last year during homecoming we went opver 2 whole minths without even LOOKING at eachother...And MAN do I ever regret it...We've never relaly been the same since...Still close, but not the same. And thats 2 whole months out of her life I've missed out on. It sucks. Mend the situation. You'll be lad you did. Awesome poem!

You wouldn't worry about what people thought about you if you knew how seldom they did.

She;s not the kind of friend I want anymore.  She talks about me behind my back and makes fun of me and spreads rumors about me.  I don't want that kind of friend anymore.

The poem sounded cliche.. and yes, petty.  Your explination cleared things up a little.  I understand when someone changes so much that it gets to the point where you say "where'd my best friend go?  The one who used to love me for me?"  Does she make fun of you, and talk about you behing your back?  Hrm.. I hate that.  Nevertheless, I think that you should be the bigger "man" (using that term VERY broadly) and approach her.  Try to talk to her.. work things out.  You never know what might happen
Nicely done.  I enjoyed this one.

Well I know the feeling because my best friend got mad at me at least 10 times last year for no real reason and it is really tough.I'm sure you'll get through it because the problem isn't worth losing a friendship over. But anyway I loved your poem and keep up the awsome work.

I hope you can find out what path is best for you. Just remember, "The only things we regret in life are the risks we don't take." Think about that a while, what have you got to loose, and is it more important than the possibility of saving a friendship? Well its your call, goodluck and take care always.

I know how friends can argue over petty things, but you should definetly try to work things out.  Last year I almost lost my best friend, and all I could think about were all of the times that we argued over stupid things, and the fact that I could have stopped her from leaving.  She came back, but if she hadnt, I would have spent the rest of my life wondering if I could have helped her.  I dont wish that feeling on anyone, and I think that if something were to happen to your friend, you may regret losing her to soemthing so petty.  I hope that you try to work things out, b/c good friends are really hard to find these days.

Well done on the poem, and good luck with the situation Allysa.
