We were friends and we were lovers
Now we're back to friends
If that even, we haven't talked for a month.

It hurt a lot at first but now I've accepted
It's actually better this way I think
I've learned a lot and grown up even more.

I held incredible feelings for you
Now they're just memories
But that's okay cause life goes on.

You loved me in your own, special little way
You taught me how to trust again
I was shattered when you found me and now I'm okay.

If Commodus was vexed, then I'm perfectly fine
I know I can love again
I just don't know who or when I will.

It was great while it lasted but it just didn't last
I'm actually glad you left me
Cause I had to learn to love myself.

I owe you more than you know
More than you'll ever know
More than you want to know.

You taught me how to love
And how to accept it from someone else
You taught me to heal.

Now I will use that knowledge
To love someone else in the future
And to be willing to open myself up.

Thanks to you
I will dance like no one's watching
And I will love like I've never been hurt.

Yea Rhonda!
I loved the changes you made on this. You made it all serious- I liked that. It was a serious topic. I love this poem. The last stanza was my favorite. The last 2 lines actually. An absolute wonderful write here! I relate to this so much...Into the library it goes. Thanks for the amazing read!

Rhonda, this was excellent!  I can relate to this so very much.  I just hope that I can be as mature about things as you have obviously been.  I really enjoyed this... the way you portrayed the change in yourself throughout the poem was excellent.  I loved it when you were talking about being glad it ended because you needed to learn to love yourself first and foremost.  The last stanza blew me away.  VERY nice work.  This is a library piece.  I enjoyed this bunches.  Kudos to you!!

I can definitely relate to this, except that we are no longer friends.  Havent talked to him in 2 years, and dont plan to.  But this was a great poem.  You seem to have overcome the situation wonderfully.

I liked the changes. Well done on this one here.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

This is so good...I loved it and I am glad you are overcoming that difficult situation.  I am approaching the one month mark with a guy I had a similar relationship and as much as I want to see him...I have been pretty strong and not talked to him.  I was so happy to see that you could make it through this and it gave me much more hope for my situation...thanks for sharing

What a great ending! You really showed a lot with this poem. Not only to get over any relationship that doesnt work out, but to learn from it, thats what a lot of people I know fail at. They think they cant go on and that the life as they know it has ended forever. But what they dont know is that life as they thought they knew it, really wasnt anything special and honest. More people need to realize the things you have. Keep up the work, liked the poem a lot.
