This is dedicated to my best friend who is obsessed with her image so much that she doesn't care about anything else, including friends and school....

These impossible images,
Of perfected bodied models,
Feed into the media,
And young girls minds.

The desire to be thin,
Takes control of life,
To have the perfect body,
Is the ultimate goal.

This impossible dream,
That poisons our thoughts,
Is a stage we've all been through;
To be desirable.

But some continue on,
Not realising where they're goin,
Down the track of no return,
Anorexia or bulimia.

I know only too well,
What it is like,
To be unhappy with your body,
And go down that road.

I am there,
And know it aswell,
But I do not wish to come back,
Until I'm happy with myself.

Too true. Some need to learn that you just have to be yourself, and to respect your body, because your body deserves a lot of respect.

Agreed, yes.  People are too caught up in their image, they often don't realize that they are being self-centered and putting everything else off, thus degrading their image further.
Luckily though, TV has been less popular lately.  We owe it all to the internet!
Let's all grow up to be good people, now.  Not beanpoles.

Horribly sad, but a very true and real topic.
Great write here! Keep it up!

I enjoyed this poem. It reaked of truth and that I like. Very well expressed here.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

Reading this poem, it is my opinion that people should learn to just be yourself, and others WILL respect you, most times even accept you. Nice job!

!!! have you ever thought that maybe some people being themselves is the reason they are driven to such images? Just a thought...

It is indeed a sad piece but I hope all goes well.

i used to be obsessed with my weight (kind of weird coming from a guy i guess), i realized i had to learn to feel good about myself,  don't you hate what the media paints, they want everyone to be anorexic.
