Night Visions

Twilight shadows fall tonight, as I have seen them creep
Pouring o’er the mountains edge in purple shades of sleep
Silver glows that linger trace the path of sinking crown
And vanish as the dark of night comes slowly folding ‘round

Beyond the hills, other horizons hide the blazing face
That lit the world and kept awake the meadows of this place
While sun has found its nightime bed and slumbers in the West
His moonbride comes to light the world while he is still at rest

The moon glows in her opal light, sent softly by her lover
And drapes across the fields of midnight black a pure white cover
A thousand stars then join her in a sea of  brilliant light
Inciting prayer and wonderment at splendors of the night

The visions of the evening hour are bountiful and such
That they will rest forever in the souls of those they touch
And those who close their weary eyes too soon, I know not why
Sleep through the evening grandeur, which will quickly pass them by
