hello all i am a new member so bare w/ me plz
i wrote this poem about 2 months ago after my father and i had an argument about my tatz.
  thank you for listening.

                 ME

Ever since time began
man has expressed himself through ink.
so these colours, shades, and markings,
mean more than you may think.
im not insane to have borne the pain, and
if you look youll see
a story of a life ive lived and all that
makes ME, ME!

i am proud of these marks, which i display
so boldly on my skin.
they represent years gone by, and how
sometimes i feel within.
there's pain and beauty in skulls and flowers
oh the story's they could tell
they signify this life im living
sometimes its a living hell

where ive been, things ive done, and
the words that go unsaid
will still be portrayed a while longer
even after im long dead
yes, im proud, and theres no shame
of course i am marked for life,
ive made my choices and paid my debts
in a world so full of strife.

there are those who will gaze upon me,
and judge me like a book.
but who is he who is without sin
and whoever said they had to look?

nothing says to mark your body
will surely damn your soul,
for god has said, and i believe, he will one day
make us whole.

hell cosmetic surgery and silicone can be no
worse than this.
my images of ink are memories for me of things
that do and do not exist.
ive felt the searing, burning pain as
needles cut through nerves,
and for some of us, its truly worth the purpose
that it serves.

the demons ive battled, the loves that i have
known, are part of what makes ME, ME!
and are now permanent trophies laid upon me,
for anyone who cares to see...

I figure, as long as it really does mean something significant to you and it's not for the sake of being "trendy" or "accepted" by your peers, then -- hey.  It's your right and choice.  Just be honest and resolved with it and consider the future to predict if you'll have any regrets with your decisions...  Sounds to me, from what you've described, that you've already done that, and in that case:  good for you.  Enjoyed the thoughts in your poem...

Jon,

powerful write...you leave me to ponder.
for that i thank you   glad that things
worked out better between you and your
dad...that's the beauty of poetry. some
times we can find ways in words on paper
to say what we can't say with verbal
words. as for tatoos, well my opinon is
it's a personal choice. apparently you
gave it a great deal of thought and from
reading this, i feel like i know YOU a
bit better...so thanks!!

take care.
