where the sky and horizon meet

0 posted 2001-07-06 12:49 PM

His stealthy figure
would glide through blades of grass
like the wind before him.
Fluttering wings would soon follow
and more often than not
he would come crawling home,
dejected with bruised pride.

The look of disdain
so often on his features
was a beloved trademark.
He was our sophisticated
feline and companion,
who purred with a sweet scowl,
and kneaded laps like dough.

The hungry wailing
of that insistent creature
was always just enough
to drag us from our comfy beds,
but nothing could drag him
from his slumber when
he curled up on the couch.

His life was too short
‘though that is always the case
of the creatures endeared
To live in our homes and our hearts.
Animals they may just be
But their love is no less
They simply leave smaller tracks on our hearts.

so sorry to hear about the subject of the poem though the writing was lovely....sometimes it hurts just as much to lose a loved pet as a friend...best wishes

Ann ~ you are quite right.  Thank you for your comments

Cpat ~ yes, their impact on our life is sometimes just as great.
