I must say that
I am not low on self-esteem
but one must accept his weaknesses with grace.
I have a weak grasp of language.
I have no idea of stringing
never-heard-of-before images and words together.
I have no compelling unusual interests to write of.
My writings are based on
the banal commonplace experiences
of a typical neighbourhood guy.

Why try so hard to write really
when your "individuality"
has been expressed by someone else?
Your personality is but a counterfeit,
reflecting the nuances of those before you.

Then I surfed a poetry site
and found the exact issue being discussed.
A wise fellow replied,
"Have you tried writing something no one else has written about? Try a dustbin, for example"

I was humbled by her simple statement
and tried for days to
come up with
a poem
about a dustbin.
I began
but had to stop half-way.
I really gave it serious thought,
wanted to give it my all
but unfortunately, inspiration eluded me

But I now know better than to give up on writing.
I resolve to see the "dustbin" objects/experiences around me
and make their voices heard

***********************************************

a poem about a dustbin

a dustbin may seem unglamourous,
reeks of stinky stuff
but hey,
i wish i were as magnanimous
as the bin,
secure enough to
collect my agonizing pits
and bitter recollections
without complaints

faterider...

It is the "dustbin" experiences that make for a great poem.  I really enjoyed this!

the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

enjoyed this..and it is the mundane...sometimes put into a new light which helps us see what our eyes and hearts have been ignoring..simply because we have grown used to seeing or feeling it.

Loved the way the pome unfolds and tells itself..till the end...and then it gets tied up in a neat little package... Good work!

faterider, much enjoyed this one.  Tons of truth oozing out.

indeed, this is what makes a writer, when he can take the ordinary. . . and make it sing. . .

great job my friend. . . you should be proud of this one. . .

I think you evoluated great.

What makes Passions so interesting is the diversety (right spell?)of people and their poetry.

You shorten yourself pal, you just wrote a marvellous peace here. And I think the banal commonplace experiences are the most interesting to write about.

Thanks for sharing your dustbin with us.
