4th of July 2001 Picnic Poesies
Virginia Salter

ripples in the breeze
sparkle the lake with sunshine
escape seems their bent

Bull Prairie Lake
Virginia Salter

red-winged blackbirds
flit, fly, perch on cattail homes

tadpoles squirm
their froggie romance
on their way to summer school

couple ol’ coots
paddle the waters in
figure eights about their babes
and all the world’s at peace

Stand of Trees
Virginia Salter

rough-faced sentinels
cluster in the shade
reach for cumulus candy
dig their toes in deep
as they seek ooze from the lake bed

their underbellies coated in needles
wildflowers, whispering in the wind

I worked all night
don't mind...it rained
fireworks postponed to another day

Nice short works VAS.... while as you say this may not be your norm, you did quite well here...

I particular enjoyed the last..tight images and clean lines... you should try more of these... the distilled essence of the moment or thought or the feel with plenty of room for more to be read into the verse than just the surface..

GOOD WORK!!

JLR, I've had 4th's like that, too, in fact it's usually hot on both sides of the fourth and stormy and cold the night of the 4th.  This year, it was hot all day, the wind did come up in the evening and God put out some fireworks of His own in the distance...over the mountains east of us.  btw, the wind did not postpone our fireworks here this year.  We arrived home from our picnic in the mountains sw of our town, crawled out of the van just in time to hear and see the finale of our local 4th display erupt and bloom before our eyes.

thanks, very much, Cpat, for coming down to read and lifting me up with your encouraging words...pun intended

I know it would be quite good of me to spend more time in SHORT musings, I guess it would leave more time for long living.
