The day was all she'd hoped and dreamed, a perfect start to life,
Her groom was now her husband, and she took her role as wife;
While friends and family gathered 'round, she thanked the stars above,
For bringing her this wondrous man, with whom she shared her love.

They greeted all the guests who joined the grand reception line,
And made their rounds for pictures, thanked their friends one final
time;
The newlyweds hopped in the car, with expectations high,
To sounds of clanking cans and shoes, they waved their last goodbye.

Their honeymoon consisted of a Caribbean cruise,
There's nothing like the ocean to provide romantic views;
They laughed and danced and swam and ate at least six times a day,
He really was amazed how she could put that food away!

The cruise was absolutely perfect...weather perfect, too,
They laughed and giggled google-eyed the way that lovers do;
Their love was very obvious to everyone on board,
But he found it unnerving that he hadn't known she snored ...

They stopped in all the tropic ports, they cuddled on the beach,
They gazed across the dining table, hands outstretched in reach;
They skipped the shows and fell asleep to satisfied delight ...
Until of course, he stole the covers ... woke her every night!

They ordered breakfast in their room, she'd hide in the latrine,
As he would greet the cabin steward (lingerie unseen);
It was a little game they played, until she lost control,
The morning that she fell into the open toilet bowl!

"I'll put that on my list", he thought. "The seat must be left down"
There sure were lots of changes when a woman was around!
The cap goes on the toothpaste and lint filters emptied out ...
The dishes must be rinsed ... now what the heck was that about?

Don't scratch your butt in public ... toothpick chewing? Not a chance!
A man sure gave up many things when he took on romance;
But he was now a man in love. His wife was so darned sweet ...
He'd make a special effort to put down that toilet seat!!!!

They settled in to married life, their trip a memory,
The one bedroom apartment now a training ground you see;
She learned to cook for two, but Martha Stewart, she was not,
And had to call her mother for advice an awful lot.

She had a full-time job she kept, but every night returned,
To find another job awaited (harder, she had learned);
She cooked and cleaned, did laundry now for two, but didn't mind,
She loved her husband dearly, he was tender, sweet and kind.

He worked hard at the factory. He'd been there several years,
Each night he drove home past the bar where he had stopped for beers;
Perhaps a game of pool or two with buddies from the plant,
But now when they invited him, he simply said "I can't."

Well, what did he expect? He was a single man no more,
And there was someone waiting he had promised to adore;
Any man who wouldn't want what he had was a fool,
His wife was so much more than just a beer and game of pool!

It wasn't all a fairytale, they had their ups and downs,
A minor disagreement, here or there to make her frown;
Although he didn't talk a lot, he listened patiently ...
And learned to end an argument with "his" apology.

He had a few bad habits, not surprising, nothing strange,
Although she had her work cut out, she knew that he could change;
A well placed word, a smile or nudge would help him see her view,
Their love was all-encompassing ... it always saw them through.

He'd asked his father for advice who said, "Son, you're a man
And now you have a woman who is nestled in your hands.
There are adjustments you must make...the first year may be hard
But happiness and joy will be your ultimate reward."

His dad was right. Within no time the first year came and went
Their love was growing day by day with every moment spent
And then one evening,  lying 'neath the light of candle's glow
He said,  "I think you're gaining weight.."  She smiled and said, "I know......."

Say, how many years you've been married???

I take tickets for the front row please, so I won't miss anything.

Hope you're married some 20 years or so, giving me a giggle for the rest of my life.

LOL ... I guess technically, this poem is actually Part 2 - the first was "He Wed...She Wed" from #13: /pip/Forum47/HTML/003239.html

Thanks so much everyone, I'm having problems with a slow computer last night and this morning, so I'm hoping Michael will thank everyone individually, but I had to laugh at the "Spam" comments, ROFL ... does Gerber make Spam?

As always, I had a blast writing with you Michael ... I'm looking forward to Part 3 too!

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

great job, you 2!
funny how things go, isn't it?
romance and being "in love" can be such a tease, and then comes reality and people sure  can change so much once you get to know them.... LOL!!!

as my very dear friend Justin Thyme said,
"When thinking of marriage, please think of your bath
and think twice 'fore heading for soaking.
'Cause marriage, I tell you, is like a hot bath.
It ain't all that hot! I ain't joking!"

hehe

great writing here... looking forward to reading the next chapter....

You each possess talent that is unsurpassed and both of you have written poems I will treasure forever.... But something magical happens when you collaborate. *S*

You've written this heartwarming, charming story in flawless rhyme and rhythm... and left us craving more. *S* So find a few more hours in each day and hurry up with the sequel! LOL

Beautiful work, Kit and Deer... long may their saga continue!

Then Balladeer discovered, much to his chagrin
That being married to a cat was wearing mighty thin.
Especially when that feline, as wont was to befit her,
Told Balladeer she was expecting a brand new baby (litter).

Hey, you two!  Terrific poem.  I love the 'Deer-flow style and the way the story is developing.

’Deer dearest heart Kit darling heart, this is magnificent but you both know that don’t you? Well, you should do, since when you collaborate you NEVER write anything that is anything less. I know I caught this one but that doesn’t mean to say I can’t reply again does it? No certainly not

Individually writing displays excellence in its flow, form and content, and I love each write, together your writing is excellent, this series however is extraordinarily brilliant in their construction, they possess an extra sprinkling of magic, utterly utterly perfect

YOU KNOW I LOVE IT, I love it utterly utterly utterly. You both are exquisite writers, and this is a fabulous poem. Marsha blows a kiss, and smiles
