Walking through grass

Now brittle brown and dead

From the chill of winter’s passing

The crunch under sole and

Ghostly rustle against pant leg

Reminds me the earth we tread

Has been sanctified and fed

By the flesh and bones of

all that went before us.

Each step taken moves

The dust of ages and eons,

Neither understood nor comprehended,

Mixing past and present

On this early spring day,

Alive with ghosts,

And other journeys.

History and lifetimes

Colored green, gold, and brown

Like grass in each passing season,

And change of cycle…

Fertilize the imagination

As each step taken,

Moves the dust of ages and eons,

Both obscure and obvious

On any season’s day,

Alive with spectral hopes,

And paths as yet untried.

I imagine myself on our little parcel of land outside of town....walking, as I am wont to do, feeling the pull of all things greater than myself....giving myself over to feelings, falling quiet, to meditate, and to listen....

all this, coming from your gift.  Thank you...

Interesting and thought provoking poem.
I often think with curiosty of those that walked the same ground I walk on, ages before me.
Good write.

So very well presented.  I read it three times ... I'm a glutton for punishment
