Did you ever realize what you did to me?
Broke my heart,
Soul and spirit?
Those scars,
I will always carry,
From my cradle to my grave.
Embedded deeply in my being
Are your cruel tongue lashings
Blows,
sneers,
neglect and torment.
I shudder with rememberance
Of loud voices,
slaps,
hair pulled,
Until my scalp cried out  "no more."
Trying to block it out,
Laughing,
and taunting me,
When I needed comfort.
Couldn't you look at me,
NOT THROUGH ME
Speak softly to me,
NOT DOWN AT ME
See me as who I was
A HUMAN BEING?
Why
What did I ever do but be born?
The choice was yours-----
not mine.
If you didn't want me
Than why did you bring me into your world of pain?
The screams I hear from time to time
wake me up.
They are from me.
Will they ever cease.
Will they ever be quiet?
Now -----
You are gone.
I should have peace.
But
The memories are still there
From my cradle to my grave.
From a battered child
Grown up,
Crying out for  a release of the pain.

Well, if no one dares to respond to this poem/you...  then let me be the first!  You describe something with which people need to deal and acknowledge.  I don't know if this is a personal account of what happened to you or simply an extremely powerful observation, but you have expressed something here that is very serious and has NO excuse EVER to exist on our planet (or anywhere else, for that matter.)  I commend you in putting this out here and encourage others in this forum to stand up, look at this, and acknowledge it.  You are a brave soul to post this and I applaud you.  I hope you find peace if this is your past and hope you post more like this to remind us all that poetry is not only about "I love you" and "Isn't nature pretty?"  Well done, Lisann.

Thank you Mark for your reply.  I have recently read a lot of your writing and I find you to be an incredibly beautiful and talented writer so I am honore that you nor only read my post but that you replied as well.
Unfortunately,  yes this is a part of my past. It tormented me for many years but through the love of a very special friend  I discovered that the incest was just a part of me---it is not all of me.  I have found a very loving, spiritual side of myself and I am looking forward to sharing it with the world.

Lisann, you have gone through a period no child should ever have done, but facing it square in the eyes, and knowing it was no fault of yours, then posting. Well, that is the bravest thing you could ever do, and is the first very GIANT step to putting it behind a door and live for the future. You will have all our hopes and strengths to help you put that behind..Welcome to Passions, in which to me, is a Passions for Caring...very gentle smile

Lisann,

I also applaud you and LOUDLY!  I thank you for not only a very well written and heartfelt poem, but also for the courage to share this with us.  There are others in this forum with similar experiences.  They may not respond, but rest assured that they will see themselves in this piece.  I hope that it helps them.  You've done well!

Michael
