                         She'd learned through his discipline,
That her hopes lay on the ground.
And so she lived her live with him,
                         Always looking down.

                         She'd learned through his vitriol,
She could never be good enough.
And so she quelled her aching soul,
And looked down instead of up.

She'd learned through his angry shouts,
That her opinion was always wrong.
And so she lived with the selfdoubts
                         That muted her spirit's song.

She learned through her life with him,
                         That she had had enough.
                         She finally decided, "Never again"
                         And started looking up.

She learned the Future lay in her track,
                         Pulling her through the miles.
That only the Past saw her back,
Only the Future could see her smiles.

She'd learned that always looking down,
Kept the future from her sight.
Now that she's looking up she's found
She's going to be all right.

Now that the Lady is looking up,
She's going to be all right.

What a special song you've sung, LJA, for some very special person....

may all Ladies heed, and look up, indeed...

Well done Sir...well done...

Beautiful piece, JLA.  I think sometimes we all need a gentle reminder to look up.  Thank you.

LJ---a special message indeed. Hugs and smiles for this one. This is a long hard road of self introspection too, I might add.
I hope the family is well!   Good to see ya here!

It's good to see you posting here my friend.

it's a song!!! and i'm singing it!! what a beautiful song!! thank you for reposting this one...

yeah, it's true, i'm singing it solo but it's really better for you that way ....... because i'm singing it solo you can't hear it!!! hehe

sometimes i sound like a screeching cat!! and you wouldn't want THAT, right?

thanks for the repost... it's awesome and tonight when i go out and look up into the sky to try to figure out  how the  constellations stay up there without falling and crashing back into the earth, and as i meditate on the circling of saturns rings, and the silver sliver of the moon, i'll think of this pome and remember it and i'll keep looking up but when i go back in the house and trip over the garden hose, i'll be pretty darn angry at you for making me look up so long and i may just have to call my friend pandora and sick her on you!!!

You are absolutely right, now that she has the courage and self esteem to go forward - "she" is going to be alright!  Well poet sir.

Thank you all for your wonderful responses.  I know there are some people who couldn't respond, and there are lots of people associated with them who need to pause and think about who they will lose, and what they will lose, and how much it is going to crush them when they wake up and realize that two people sharing their hopes and dreams is what life is all about.

Just one other comment before I lapse back into kitty-kicking mode - This poem could have been written gender-neutral, and the message would be the same.  Love works best when two people work together and lift each other up.

LJA, your response elicits a "truer words were never spoken...."

so BTTT with you...

and just don't go kicking those kitties too hard, or I'll have to get my broom out!

I've read this poem several times before and loved it every time... but my perspective was different then... the poem was for "other people." *S* Now, I'm so far down I HAVE to look up or eat dirt... and the poignancy of your words is much greater. *S* Great job, kitty-kickin' sailor man!
