I guess that we were neighbors-
That was the term we used.
You were the wealthy neighbor,
And my friendship you refused.

I used to watch you from afar-
Like a princess at the ball,
It really broke my heart,
As I watched you slip and fall.

Your father was the banker,
I worked out on the range.
You grew up on silk and satin,
While I lived on pocket change.

You liked the fancy living-
Not a country girl at all,
From the way you burned the candle,
I just knew you'd slip and fall.

From socialite to addict-
It happened all too soon...
You couldn't see the cowboy,
Who thought you'd hung the moon.

As I perused the morning paper,
I was shocked at what I read-
"Starlet dies at twenty-one"!
And overdose it said.

I still think about "what might have been"
When I hear the bullbats call-
Something must have died inside,
As I watched you slip amd fall.

Succinctly powerful and visual, as usual.  A tragic image portrayed here, but delivered very well, nonetheless.  Thanks for the read.

Many have gone that way, nothing anyone could of said would have changed it. They all think that it happens to others but never them.

Powerful verse here.  Some have to learn the hard way unfortunately.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.
