In a corporeal internship...

0 posted 2001-07-01 02:14 PM

We go on with our lives
'Till our destined time arrives
And conform all too soon
To the beat that lost its tune...
We forget how to try
And no longer question why?
All we see is a blur;
Then we find, we never were...

A slave to this ordeal
I never want to feel...
I'll remain
In refrain
And rely on my own brain...
Just the thought of lost will
Is enough to make me ill
I'll go on
Not a pawn
But a knight in a new dawn.

You can call me a Romantic,
For that title suits me well...
If I choose the right semantics,
I can start a ripple, or a swell...

'Cause apathy kills...
It terminates all of life's thrills
When people don't care,
It makes you wish you weren't there...
And still, we go on
Believing that all hope is gone
It's all frame-of-mind;
It's time to leave bent frames behind!

We are blind in our sight --
Thus we're cornered by our fright,
So we build such a wall;
Our defenses grow too tall...
Then we find we're alone
In a dull and pointless drone...
We go on is disdain
Thinking life is down the drain.

I stand firm with my view
That it's still all up to you...
You can stay
The same way
Or decided to change the day...
If you hate where you're at,
Simply change your habitat.
Try and see;
You'll agree
That your will can set you free...

You can call me a Romantic,
For that title suits me well...
If I choose the right semantics,
I can start a ripple, or a swell...

'Cause apathy kills...
It terminates all of life's thrills
When people don't care,
It makes you wish you weren't there...
And still, we go on
Believing that all hope is gone
It's all frame-of-mind;
It's time to leave bent frames behind!

We go on...

Mark,
   An intensely penned, and all too sadly true read. Apathy exists all around us, but we have to have the faith to believe that people are fundamentally good, and compassion and selflessness will ultimately be the victor through all the spoils...

Intensely felt, Elise.  No doubt, it's hard being an idealist in a world as stark as the one in which we find ourselves...  It's been said that a cynic is simply a disillusioned idealist...  perhaps...  but as you've stated,  never give in to it.  There's too much good that needs our focus.  Well, I won't stop dreaming...

JM:  thanks for stopping by.  By living by example, maybe -- just maybe, one person can positively inspire another and start a ripple which transforms into a tidal wave...?

Another rebel song, I believe. We have to keep this attitude in place I think, those of us who cannot bear to conform too much.
Great write, Mark

Right on the mark, Sandra -- this too is a song, "Euro" in style (Alphaville, Depeche Mode, etc) -- very electronic and kind of dark.  I completely agree:  "rebels" unite!  This isn't really a "rebel" song;  more of a concerned statement and reinforcing individuality.  Thank you, as always, for reading and commenting.

SEA:  a warm grin right back at you!  I appreciate your taking the time to read my stuff and am very pleased to hear that you're enjoying it.  Thank you.

Very very beautiful written.

Small remark, not on your poem though, but I think it would look more friendly if you don't put your titles in capital.

Thank you, Titia, for reading and for your friendly reply.  Regarding the "all-caps issue", perhaps I should explain:  my intent is NOT to "shout" or appear "unfriendly"; rather, using "all-caps" is a habit to which I am constant in all my titlings and labelings, throughout my computing everywhere, simply because I find it easier on the eyes to read and to find.  If it offends anyone, my statement is that offending anyone is definitely NOT my intention or motive;  however, I do encourage anyone who is superficially "offended" to question the depth of such reaction if it goes no further than the title of a given poem or label, for not to go any further than the surface has its own issues and repercussions.  But I thank you, sincerely, for bringing this up and for investing your time to read and reply.  :-)
