The Steamy Desert

We started a quest with nowhere to go
I stood beside you with love to show
I believed in you from the start
I dreamed we would never part
You made the promise to start anew
Pedestals and loyalty all from you
I silently reached to hold you tight
I want to help you see the light
But in your grasp hidden from view
The bottle is there taking over you
The words flow cutting from your lips
My heart, it beats, and then it skips
Reality rises and I see the sign
No longer are you truly mine
The drink has won, you lie in its grip
Yet it’s me who stumbles and starts to trip
Love does not end because you gave in
The circle just starts over again
The hurt and despair and endless tears
The harshness of all my fears
Truths that are hidden in an alcoholic daze
Life lived inside this maze
Fight! I pray make it back to me
Stop this endless insanity
Nowhere to go because we’ve been here before
We seen heaven, we’ve been at hell’s door
One more choice for you to make
It’s in the drink you think you must take
Swallow now and say goodbye
For I will no longer live in this lie.

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

azblond-
wow...your name is what got my attention,
but the poem is what kept it.
very powerful write about a very
   difficult and painful subject.
   great job, my fellow Zonie.

It's never easy to stand and watch those you love destroy themselves in a bottle of alcohol.  Very powerful poem, azblond.  Since this was from long ago, I hope you are out of this situation.  Well done.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Wel written, azblond.  You captured the hope (and the hell it brings) so well here.  The sad thing is that, there is no other option than to hope, or to give up hope.  Either way, the perch on the ledge is just as terrifying and irresistable.
