The Man Inside The Novel

He speaks to me on pages,
the black ink embedded on white.
Like a galaxy of stars
glittering, twinkling,
rescuing me from yet another lonely night.

This man that was created
in another's fairytale illusion,
the chapters weave a story
transporting me from reality
to sweet confusion.

For practicality must keep us grounded,
in this world where happy endings
are rare to exist.
The pages brimming with passion and magic,
indelibly painting a saga
that in this pragmatic world,
I feel I have missed

This undaunting hero,
who slays all the dragons
and gallantly whisks the maiden
to her dreams never before realized.
He holds her close
in a Prince's embrace,
leaving her fulfilled, mezmerized.

Whether an Antebellum mansion
adorned in history,
or a southsea island
bountiful of sun-kissed beaches,
this mystic traveler
of fables and fantasies,
takes his captive audience
where only their imagination
is their vehicle,
to their deepest reaches.

And so, I will revel in this moment,
and all the beauty and hopes that await,
or so it seems.
I will close my book,
and close my eyes...
...and see you in my dreams.

I often wonder which is more enjoyable -- to write it or to read it? You've painted some capturing thoughts here, Elise. Like with a good film, when you come across something to which you can relate, you find yourself lost in that pocket of time where it's your personal story you're experiencing for that brief but precious moment...

Thank you. I'm not sure which is more enjoyable either, writing it or reading it. I do know experiencing it in the tangible sense would be best of all!
