Listening to every heart

Independence Day

to me, by birth
brought by
blood’s worth

for that I bear
deep-rooted
emotion

can’t hear hymn
or anthem’s devotion
that I don’t tear
up inside
and unashamed
they well
then slide

down my face
awesome grace
this feel

this….feel….

my throat
constricts
as the click
of one and twenty
guns
salute

then the pride
that resides inside
emotes

at words wrote

We the People

you, and I

then when
red, white, blue
in breeze, fly

or the missing
man formation
streams overhead

for the missing
or the dead

chills run through

my spirit

weeps

somewhere inside
is the feeling
deep

to me, by birth
this land,
this earth

brought by
those, who lived,
and died

blood’s worth
given, for
U.S. pride

Independence Day
the Flag Flies
and past spirits
rest, inside

A wonderful expression of the emotions so many of us feel on the 4th but don't have the words to express!

Hey kids...I only put out there, what is in "here"...I swear, don't expect me to sing the National Anthem, or Pledge the Allegiance, or hum along to the Star Spangled Banner, without hearing the catch in my throat, or to see the tears in my eyes...and I've ALWAYS been this way...

thank you for reading...

have to bow a head in response to this... nice, no, gratifying to see people who appreciate these days as ones of sacrifice. the joy is in the recieving of the gifts bestowed upon us by the men and women who made the holiday possible.

This is beautiful, Sunshine... I share your tearing up at the sound of the anthem or America the Beautiful or the sight of veterans saluting the flag they fought for or... the list goes on and on. Thank you for this superb tribute.
