Homeless

I see you all alone
Sitting in your cardboard home,
While an icy winter wind
Rushes through your clothes so thin.

As you sit with fingers blue,
Your belongings piled around you,
Trying to keep away the cold.
Looking so tired, looking so old.

I wonder why this happened to you?
Was there anything I could do?
Where was your family? Was your pride too strong,
To let them help you? Or are they all gone?

Are you alone, with no one who cares?
If I could, I’d gladly share.
But here I sit across the way,
Wondering if I’ll see another day?

Amazing how those questions come to our mind, and we end up finding that sometimes, those whom we are watching, are wondering why we are where we are at....as they are comfortable with their own choices....

good write.  Good read.

Very well said, Lisa - We should all remember that life didn't begin in cardboard boxes for these folks... and each of them has their own saga... We could learn much from them...

Extremely relevant, Lisa and a wonderful thing to not only think about but actually do something about...  whereas we might find ourselves "helpless" in helping such folk, perhaps even the simplest gesture of a donation of clothes, food, or anything else that may be "useful" and which you are not using yourself can mean literally a world of difference for a homeless person in need.  So there "always" is something that we can do as individuals to help others out...  Good thoughts in your poem.

I guess we all see these homeless  people as we go along through life. It always wrings your heart to see their circumstances. Very compassionate poem!
