Two trees were planted with loving care,
equal spaces of yard they did share.
Both were given the exact same chance,
the setting was right to enhance.
For many years both stayed the same,
then one got tired of the same old game.

Putting forth effort it gathered sun,
begged the rain so it would come
Spread its leaves to catch the flow
enticed the wind to ever blow
Limbs got supple and very strong
trunk rose up, like a song.

Finally it stood, proud and straight,
high above its puny mate.
It heard the smaller, call one day,
“My friend, why did you not stay?
We were happy the way we were,
now you’ve left me, which I didn’t deserve.”

The larger sadly shook its leaves,
stretching out to catch the breeze.
“My  friend, you could have come with me,
even now, don’t you see?
I wanted more, you wasted the day,
I chose to grow, you chose to stay.

A well told tale of an old legend....it IS what we reach for, that we see our growth...

well done, Sir, well done!

Oh, please don't LEAF me now !
I'd SHED a little tear if you do !
But if you have to GROW ...
then please, please know
I'll stand in the SHADE awe you !

I love this! I too, wrote about about two trees side by side...if I can ever find it? Will send to you. (me has a "thing" for trees...smile) and loved the metaphor...and damn if those roots don't grow deep anyway, huh? Hugs, Logan!

*shaking head in amazement* Logan, THIS touches me in many ways. I can relate to this, and will dare to put myself in the place of the larger tree. I love this.

A great lesson in this, and the sad part is that sometimes the roots are so entwined, it holds back the growth!  Good one Logan.
