In a corporeal internship...

0 posted 2001-06-29 03:18 PM

We chose the path less traveled on;
The aftermath may never be gone...
The route we took
Veered far away
Like a good book
Or music well played...
But then we didn't know
If or when we'd reap what we'd sow...

The trail taken
Led to a fork in the road
Were we mistaken?
Only the future will show...
Some of the clues we sought,
We obtained;
At the time we hadn't thought
That ours remained...

Moments of history return
Showing how much is left to learn
Pitfalls revealed
Looking back upon the path.

A tempting detour
Beguiled us away with its allure
This pathway of intrigue
Led us to a place never meant to be seen.
Therefore we became too enthralled
To hear Destiny when it had called
We had swapped common sense for adrenaline
Forever there and then
Once more back again...

A word of wisdom,
One that all should know:
Beware of short-cuts;
They may not be so...
The obvious evades us while we,
Held captive, follow blindly
A course that emphatically
Teaches us quite differently.

Patterns reflect themselves upon
Memory when the song's been sung
Leaving behind desire to change some of those
Moments of history return
Showing how much is left to learn
Pitfalls revealed
Looking back upon the path.

forked paths and decisions..such quandaries at times..and hindsight is always so illuminating..

Good thoughts here...and a journey we can all relate to

Thanks for the thoughts, Ron.  Indeed -- so many paths of possibilities...  It is important to question everything, but equally, to maintain a perspective of no regrets...

Thank you so much SEA for your enjoyment.  I'm glad you can find things here to which you can relate...

The worst part I think, is not knowing what would have been if you had not taken the wrong path at some point.
Another philosophical question with no answer. It's too easy to be led down the wrong one, isn't it? But by looking back, maybe we learn at least to be more particular about which way we walk. Great stuff, as always.

Thank you for the encouraging words, Sandra.  I've come to the conclusion that the heart should steer and the mind should keep checking the rear-view mirror (unless, of course, you follow the "Italian School Of Driving" which states that what's behind you doesn't matter...).  As long as we learn from our "mistakes", then can there truly be any?

Mark,
    This write captures the old adage of "if I'd only known then what I know now".  We can't go back and transform the past, but hopefully along the way we have gathered up some sage and sometimes painful lessons. There is still much road up ahead, and more journeys to embrace with new found hope. Thanks for making us all see that we are not alone on that unpredictable and sometimes fickle path. Happier trails await!

Elise, you are right -- "what if?"  It's all about perspective, attitude, and wisdom.  Afterall, it's not the spoon that bends...  Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

It's been a concious quest of mine from an early age, Sunshine, to learn from my mistakes, live a life of no regrets, and know myself.  A long and winding path, to be sure, but worth every turn, I might add...  Thank you for reading and replying.

Very well said, Mark, as often we can look back at crossroads that were there, and wonder what would we be like if we had taken the other pathway..nice write, my friend
