The Bottom of the Barrel
Virginia Salter

Ever feel like the bottom of the barrel
you know, where the mash rests in cloudy scum
the part that lingers in the drum
for scrapers scraping to purge the sum

The thick that settles out of the thin
and layers down a bottom’s skin
the part that waits for all above
to be consumed with rapturous love

To then perchance to get to rise
enough to find some curious eyes
And then perhaps to find its due
and touch the heart and soul of you

When I am feeling thus, my friend
and thinking life is near its end
because what I have is naught to spend
and from the bottom I’m at bend

Then I recall some common sense
thinking how could I be so dense
if it were not for the barrel’s bottom
wouldn’t all the good leak out?

heh heh heh-Interloper, me thinks you thought 'scrapes,' clever reply.  I have another poem blooming, so I'm gonna put it here, cuz I've reached my limit for Open#14 today.

Mood Swings
Virginia Salter

Mood Swings, mood swings
come on to my mood swing
up, down, happy, frown
don't you wish I weren't a clown

Mood Swings, mood swings
ride upon my mood swing
In the sky, on the dirt
Look out now don't get hurt!

Mood swings, mood swings
have you seen my mood swings
Forward, back, don't attack
it's from caffeine's up and lapse.

If I seem so down and out
don't you cry, don't you pout
I'll be up again, my Friend,
I'll be up until the end.

Often, too, I've come to see
mood swings have an odd affect on me
It seems I'm able still to be
givin' out smiles and glee

For poking fun at me, you see,
helps me get on famously
Well not with the world at large
but I give smiles at no charge.

Mood swings, mood swings
cause my heart all kinds of sing
Lilting joys, raucous noise
melancholy or gaily poised.

So if you suffer just as I
have yourself some pity pie
Then top it with some ripe strawberries
and sweetened, lovely laughing faeries

Then look for a hot air balloon
so someone will take you away quite soon
So I can end this rhyme at last
for oh so many minutes passed.
