This is something a little more philosophical than I usually attempt.  Its kinda like raging against the storm of opinion, but give it a read and see if it hits anything in you.

"Pride should bow to humility."
Worthless advice, given free.
For, pride earned, from labor's task,
Allows belief that you don't lack
The gift to lift up your soul
Above selfdenial and control,
And bring yourself from darkest night,
Into the promise of daylight.

"Pride cometh soon before the fall."
A proverb familiar to us all.
But pride, earned, ignites the spark,
That drives us to deny the dark,
And reach out with extended hand,
To grasp hope, and perchance,
To lift another's heart to see,
That love bought with pride is given free.

Pride is often laid to blame,
To hold us back from the flame,
That burns unslaked from deep within,
That illuminates where we've been,
Who we are, what we're giving,
Why we strive, how we're living,
Who we touch, and who we love,
And why we can never give enough.

So,

When you've reached in and brought out,
Your given talent, despite your doubt,
And touched the world around you there,
Giving hope and love within your sphere,
You've sung the song you were meant to play,
Uniting in harmony all that God made.

In a world chilled by the mundane...
Pride is the fire; you are its flame.

Pride can be deceit or justifiable self-respect...or elation over an act or possession. Two kinds of pride and I see where you're coming from.  The word as simple as it is covers so many aspects of human behaviour.......great advice in this poem!

I knew it! I knew it! The minute I saw you make a grand return with a poem ridiculing Mr. Balladeer I said to myself, "Self, he's gonna come back with some blockbuster just to show the poets how good he really is when he wants to be!" This proves me right! You didn't fool me...you are more diabolical than ever!!!!

I bow to your cunning..(don't even think of adding on to that word!)

You know LngJhn, I've missed you for your wonderfully humorous poetry, but just as much for these wonderful pieces that continue to show your talent in a most profound way. This was filled with such wisdom and exceptional phrasing. I really enjoyed this.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Okay, okay... you've convinced us that pride isn't necessarily a bad thing and can, in fact be a good thing... and you've done so in a great poem. *G* Have you no shame? LOL

Excellent work, LJA... it's good to see you back, serious or smiling. *S*
