The wind as scouts rush through brush
uniformly bending weeds to will,
distant rumblings all else hush
roots grasp, grass whips waves upon the hill.

Darkening clouds rout daylight
as the birds all disappear,
thermal coolness, not quite night
quickly changing atmosphere.

Eight aligned crape myrtle trees
passersby purple petals pelt,
hair and clothes tugged by the breeze
the storm's surrounding hand is felt.

Unleashed, the laddered lightning
though afar make no mistake,
anticipation hight'ning
through the silence thunder breaks.

Galloped gusts race through the leaves,
a sound so like the sea it awes,
eyes closed with ease one believes
rain rattled roads one hears applause.

Alert to covered porch you go
perched on glider a treat to sense,
eyebrows raised you admire the show
a grateful nature's audience.

Vivid and exciting.  It's pretty exciting to watch a storm, from a dry, non-electrified perch.  Enjoyed this!
