I, remembering more of the past
than Hope is inclined to do,
advised against it,
but true to nature Hope did not
listen…
to your softness cravings turned
inside out,
to your 'honesty’ eager ears
opened,
to your question of
ready for love,
yes’s did abound.

I must say again, I
advised against entertaining such thoughts,
for love is naught more than
frivolity fraught with pain,
but hope was determined
to dance...
blind to past pain,
remembering only when
feet flew fancy free and not
when stubbed toes shuffled
from the dance floor.

The main attraction
charm and grace a plenty
and with promises of ever more to entice,
hope inched its way
onto the dance floor
poised and ready for the music
to start.

Against it I had advised so
surprised I wasn’t when
in the spotlight Hope was left
all alone.
Never having been good at this sort of thing
and murmurs of such
trailed after
until finally you dimmed
well at least I should say you were
out of sight.

As embarrassment spun a
thousand tales of how and why
I held out a box of Kleenex,
all forewarnings forgotten,
and silently waited
for Hope to die.

well woven.... a chance not taken however... is an opportunity missed...

Enjoyed this for both its imagery and its flow...

yes, sometimes you do have to take that chance. . . and hope. . .

this is excellent. . . flowed very well. . . and presented a quiet picture. . .

Ah...you had a Hope in your life, too.

Well done, jellybeans.

I enjoyed this entire piece ...
partial to the lines above.

Have I told you lately, lady, that I love the way you write? *S* Even when it hurts... and this one does. You'd think hope would at least have some dignity in her death throes, wouldn't you? And speed would be nice, too! LOL

The last lines of "The Dance" echo through my mind as I read this:
"I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance."

And some dances are worth whatever consequences come. *S*

How well I know this one! But still--"Dance, sister--dance!" especially when the music is so sweet! Hugs jb--have missed ya!
