They drifted in, one by one,
as twilight come with the setting sun.
Horned owl flew in silent flight,
wolf’s cry broke the still of night.
Forgotten trails once more trod
ancient footsteps walking the sod.

The fire was lit, they gathered round,
in a circle sitting on the ground.
Not a word was spoke for a while,
even though they had come many a mile.
The talk began on who to seek,
gathering souls destined to keep.

Voices to send out on the wind,
teachers and keepers for souls to mend.
Soothing the hurts with words of truth,
relighting the candle of love forsook.
Finally all was said and done,
the old ones left the fire, one by one.

And it all began

Logan~
You write so beautifully of the legends ...
I thank you for sharing the peacefulness of your thoughts here.

Yes ... after the council ...
the stewards of the mission at hand
move forward gathering the sparks of others.
Into the circle we turn ... again and again.
Ever teaching ... ever reaching~

Thank you.

Hey Logan..I like this...it's got great atmosphere...I just wonder if the 'walking' in the first verse (last line) should in fact be 'walked' - to keep the tense consistent...

Thanks for the read

Perhaps because of unrest back when,
is why Kansa winds blow so often

so I shall go out to hear
others reasons why the land is dear....

Thank you for this Logan...

A very welcome introduction to your poetry, for me.  This made me picture a "Tolkienesque" image -- almost gothic at first but with a nice positive twist towards the end.  At times, I think we all share that campfire with each other.  I look forward to reading more from you.
