Shame on You

by Michael

You with your wealth
that don’t consider yourselves
wealthy,
because you’re not yet wealthy enough,
horde it!

Just keep it to yourselves!

Hear the jingling bell
at Christmas on your way
in and out of the store?

You don’t give!

You avert your eyes
and pretend the man
is not there.

Never mind
that you’ve just spent
hundreds of dollars
on things you didn’t need.

You push the over-full
shopping cart
to your new car
and discover a small dent
in the door.
You’re furious!
You have insurance.

What about the man and woman
just a few miles distant
that are driving around
in a 1977 Pontiac
and struggling not only with
the insurance payments,
but trying to afford a new tag?

You enjoy good health
when others
fight each day for survival
with their own,
yet you’ve the nerve
to whine when you have
a headache.

Do me a favor?

Take two aspirin
and shut to hell up!

You choose your friends
by how much education they have,
their job,
the worth of their home.

Did you notice that the person
putting money in the bucket
of the guy jingling the bell
just also happens to be
the one driving the 1977 Pontiac?

Yet, he isn’t worthy of your
friendship.
You would be embarrassed
to have his old car
seen in your driveway.
The neighbors might talk.

Heavens, let’s not let that happen!

Shame on you!

See this in my hand?
It's a seed.
Put on some garden gloves.
Don't want you getting your hands
dirty, do we?

Plant it in the ground
and
grow some

C H A R A C T E R!

This is something that needs to be said and I hope the people it is intended for, find it and do feel some shame.

Bites, indeed. I like the message of course.   Makes us realize not to take what we have for granted.

You tell 'em, Michael!  Great write for some much-needed perspective!
