~*~ Love Is A Never Ending Circle ~*~

On the small finger of my right hand,
I wear a plain band of simple gold.
It’s been many years since I put it on,
And here is the story I wish to be told.
~o0o~
This band was given as a vow of love
By Grampa to Gramma, oh so many years ago,
She wore it 74 years of her loving life,
As a token of their love, so all would know.
~o0o~
I was a child of 8, when Gramma was dying,
She gave me her ring on a chain, so it would be seen.
She said I would be the only one who would cherish it,
Little did I know what that ring would come to mean.
~o0o~
She told me Grampa had no money for that ring,
So when she was only 17, she sold locks of her hair.
In those days, you got whatever you could,
By whatever means that were there.
~o0o~
Well my Gramma died and I treasured that ring,
And always wore the chain and held it close to my heart,
Somehow holding onto that little gold band,
Made me secure, like we never really did part.
~o0o~
As I grew, one day I slipped the ring on my finger,
And each year another finger it found to fit,
But I never, ever took that little gold band off,
I just loved, and cherished it.
~o0o~
Finally it got to tight for my ring finger,
I took it to a jeweler to have him make it fit.
He told me something that day, and I cried,
There was an inscription inside the ring and this was it ~
~o0o~
~*~ Love is a never ending circle, and our love has just begun,
It will last forever or until, the day this band is none!
~*~
~o0o~
I had been wearing that ring over 40 years,
And never even bothered to look inside.
I began to wonder in the box she gave me,
What others secrets therein might hide.
~o0o~
I got the box down from the shelf,
With anticipation, I could hardly wait.
I began searching through letters, poems,
Pictures, I was really in an excited state.
~o0o~
What I found next stopped my heart like a clock,
There in rice paper folded with a little blue bow,
Was a note from my Grampa with some locks his hair,
Saying, "I Love You", with a funny little “i.o.u. note.”
~o0o~
In his handwriting was a little note,
That I knew Grampa had sealed with a kiss,
And on that old parched piece of paper,
He had painstakingly written her this:

~*~Love is a never ending circle, and our love has just begun,
It will last forever or until, the day this band is none!
~*~
~o0o~
I've worn this ring on my finger for 40 years,
And so the circle has never been broken,
As you can see, love is what she left to me,
And her precious ring was just a token.
~o0o~

~*~ They do live on in our memories ~*~

~* Happy Anniversay Gramma and Grampa *~
I Love You
~o0o~

My Gramma lived to be 98, was married to my Grampa for 74 years, had 11 children, 46 grandchildren, 21 great, grandchildren, and didn't meet the 6 great, great, grandchildren.  These two wonderful people left a legacy that is truly a blessing in all of our lives.

This was such a warm and interesting tale and what makes it so beautiful is that it's true.
What treasures you have to enjoy and remember your loved ones
Very lovely tribute

Very moving Sharon, sure beats the absence on my ring finger which after three years is indented and refuses to tan.

MyEnchanted_Melody: I am just so delighted you enjoyed this, as this one is special to me!

Sven: Thanks for the kudos, luv ya!

Marge: I thank you for the installation on the "ahhh" hall of fame, I will gladly take it for the most wonderful mentor I had in my life with pride!  Thank you!  Oh but could I have your mind for one day, what a happy person I would be, for you truly are gifted.

Martha: You know about my Grandmother and what she meant to me, I really hope today especially she will be somewhere besides in my heart and mind, and know the love I feel for her is as endless as time!  Thank you.

Melissa: I still wear it, and it is getting wafer thin, but "it goes with me" and I will give it back to her someday, thank you!

Richard: Well...we will just have to find you a woman, then a tan won't matter will it?  Sometimes you truly make me laugh, and laugh I am!

Vicky: Oh I am so glad you enjoyed this "new found friend"!

Elizabeth: Accept my thanks for having even come to read my work (you know you are my hero by now don't you?), thank you, thank you, thank you!
