Arrows Broken And Bent

Some white men believed it was their right,
But their intentions were morally wrong.
They would not give up the fight,
Until they sang their victory song.

They stole from the natives of the land,
Taking innocent lives for the price of gold.
The natives grieved, at their cruel hand,
Their warm home now turned bitter cold.

Soldiers with guns came in like a flood,
Silently sneaking up without any warning,
All that could be seen was miles of blood,
All that could be heard were songs of mourning.

That was where the white man got his start,
And where the peaceful existence of natives went.
Listen to the drums echoing their beating hearts,
For their arrows are now broken and bent.

Now they took away the gold and land,
But they could never take away their pride,
And to this day, they turn the other cheek,
And by the white man, stand side by side.

music: "Distant Drums" Elan Michaels

You once left a comment that you never thought you would become a "real poet" but that you just wanted to leave behind a bit of you...

now you leave behind vast amounts of your heart...and...

you ARE a poet....

And according to the legends of the old ones, gentle smile, the soul of the red man will become the souls of the other races, until the earth is once again as it was before...nicely done as always, Sharon

Hi Professor!  Nice to see you again, and thank you for reading one of my meager submissions.

Sunshine: I don't know what to say to you, except your words kinda made me all teary.  Thank you.

vlraynes: Didn't mean to make you chilly, but I sure wanted some stark reality thrown up here in words, so I do thank you for reading it.

Logan: I think you may not only be right, but it is happening before our very eyes!  Thank you for always reading my "stuff"!

Mysteria~
According to the ancients ...
It will be as it was before ...
WE WILL BE AS ONE
And the land will run endlessly ~
with animals and man - side by side ~
Taking only that which is needed ~
returning more than we take ~

There ARE spirits walking, my friend~
We know this to be true.

Thank you for touching.
I love you~

Marge: You have a better connection to all this than I do, but I hope to live to see this day.  Love is abound as spirits mix memories with trust isn't it

Sharon...what a powerfully spoken message that paints such a vivid picture of Native American history, and the pain hardship they endured as everything that belonged to them was taken away.  This touched my heart very deeply...thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Hugs and much love to you, dawn

This is just a wonderful poem!  Everything enhances it, music and the painting both. I enjoyed it and applaud your ability to bring a sad time in our history to our attention in such an impressive way.

Martha: You know I do these for you and Marge, and anyone else really with First Nations or Native American roots.  It kills me to see the legal battles going on up here and them fighting to get back what was theirs in the first place, just infuriates me!

Trillium: Thank you, I try to find the most respectful presentation possible for these stories, as there are no other in history outside one other that deserves such respect!  Thank you for reading.
