She lay alone amid the tangle
the girl with the misty eyes
broken in body, a lifeless spirit
‘the passenger always dies’

Pulled along just for a ride
she sat in front next to Ned
six teens out for a little fun
now five of them lay dead

A soft drizzle begins to fall
flashing red lights draw near
reflections of life still remain
in that one crystal tear

Life, so fragile, ebbs away
no one can stop it’s flow
rain glistens in misty eyes
that held a young girl’s glow

Powerful and thought-provoking.  So many things in life "don't have to be", but we all too often don't realize this fact until it's simply too late...

Yes a very powerful and good reminder to all, as at least our graduations draw near here, very well done Sharon, I hope parents will show this to their teenagers.

To think ahead...takes but mere moments that the young believe they do not have time for...

well done deVine....

Hi. Oh so true.  Every day truths unfolded here....The reality of everyday tragedies.  Written well for all souls to ponder.

It seems that most of us knew kids either when we were their age or kids in our town that we heard about died this way.  I knew some when I was in high school.  So young and so sad!!!  After reading this poem it made me begin to think about those I knew and I decided to say something.

A current topic...written well, as always.  Perhaps you should be the PIP spokesperson on such matters.  I will print this for a couple young people I work with.  Thanks!

Sad, I wish this would not keep happening. So many young innocents lose their lives at the very beginning. Excellent message, Sharon.

Thank you again. It's tragic isn't it? There was an accident on the way to work today..they were pulling someone out of a car and though they were alive, it could easily have turned out differently. I hope everyone drives more carefully!!

I realize unavoidable accidents happen. But so often we see young people die, learning too late that they aren't invincible after all. I'd like your permission to show this to my nephew - he's just learning to drive. May I?
