On a Shelf

She loved books, writers, stories
dusty, first edition, rare
and she loved me
None of their shelves alike
no order to the placement
yet she knew exactly
where to find each copy
It’s been too long since we talked
in more than casual conversation
when it seems not so long ago
I got by on three hours
just to talk her to sleep
Maybe I’ll send her a book
just to imagine
her symbolically placing me
on a shelf

Sometimes the books that are well written, will be taken down from that shelf and reread, over and over again...all nicely said..gentle smile

Oh yes, I have known this feeling well. I like the way you approached it.

JLR~
This is wonderfully rendered.

and she loved me'

I love this one, JLR.  Then again, I have always been a sucker for books.  Perhaps I shall send one to a very good friend of mine.  I love the thought of sitting on her shelf.  This was superb!

so she knows exactly where each good book is, eh?

then surely she will find you, and not allow you to grow too much dust on your leaves, perhaps the binding you carry will be the ticket

enoyed reading you, I'm sure she will, too
