Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-06-23 04:05 PM

The Mentor

he ambled the beach
              longside me
those slow agos in our
yestermemories

like Harvey he was to
me
just a voice of the gull
               a crisp in the
wind
sliver of fog’s breath
as the sun boiled
down
into the sea
loganberry red

he was always there
while my bare feet
clung to the damp
sand, elevating
           my step
one grain higher to
the heavens

it must have been he,
you see,
who left his mentoring
                           quest
in my breast

for having heard in the gull’s cry,

“you are not yet old enough to
know
let it grow, let it grow”

so I aged my words, allowing
decades to elapse
before casting delicacies on the wind
for the gulls to catch
                                           on the fly

if nothing else
                                  I feed the birds

I think I've just discovered a poet's heart.  This is fabulous, Karilea.  May I keep it?

Love this, it reminds me of a Rod McKuen poem.

Alwye actually picked the stanza I adored, and of course you know I LOVE this one for sure.  Now if I can figure where my library is, your poem is now in it!  Lovely Karilea.

Oh Karilea ... I enjoyed this tremendously!  What wonderful phrasing ... I started to copy favorite lines, and gave up as they all intertwine to make the whole of this wonderful piece. Loved this!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Auguste...I hope so...that I have a heart, and you found a keeper...thank you!...

sodpossum, bliss is a pretty good word around here...thank you...

Marge...how do you find so many ways to say "wow"...? and always leaving smiles...
thank you...

Logan, it's been a long time since someone has called me "Sis"...and I am enjoying it, and having you come in to read...thank you!...

Vicky, that you enjoyed, is all I ask...the comments left behind are pure cream on berries...

SEA...absolutely! Wouldn't have it any other way!...

Cat...now that, my dear, is one of the best compliments ever!...

Nan...being graced by one of your comments is the only way to go...thank you!...

Krista, that was one of my favorite parts as well...thanks for coming in to read, I know the schedule's been rough!...

JLR, and I'm not through learning...thank you...

Thank you Betty!...

Mysteria, your "library" is directly below the reply box in Options, two boxes down...see where it says [when you go to reply] Options?  "Add Thread to Library"...then, in the dark blue boxes that are at the head of everyone's screen, up there, where it says "Private Library"...click on that and you will see them as you go about, collecting your favorites!  Great feature, this!...and thank you my dear, for reading...

Kit...someday, I want to write like you! Until then, I'll pen along to the best of my ability...thank you!

Karilea
If I whisper, will you listen?...
I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.
