Soul Catchers

Blessed are they
the Heaven bound,
their lives on a special quest;
survived have they,
the earth-bound journey
where oft the soul is lost,
separated from the body during a dream,
driven out by malignant spirits;
this Middle world
where we all live sometime in our existence,
just above the Lower, Ancient World
of power animals, guardian spirits,
soul protectors that help us find our way.
Traveling are they,
on another plane,
to the Upper World of Souls,
to learn from those who went before,
to teach those who come after,
to kneel at the left hand of God,
to return to the earthly plane
and learn the lessons that never took hold.
Dream Catchers hang in windows.
Soul Catchers always close by.
The eagle cries,
the wolf howls,
the bear protects the front,
the cougar guards the rear,
the Shaman drives the evil away.
Spirits walk,
shadows on the land,
souls whisper;
a new one is born,
another moves on,
we catch the day at sunrise,
turn it loose at night,
Middle World realities overshadowing
what came before and will return after,
too late for some,
too soon for others…
Spirits walk,
the earth gives up it's dead
all tread the same ground,
but follow different trails
all leading to one path
and journeys end.
