To Sail the Sea

When gray and purple mist is lifting slowly off the sea
There is a moment of contentment deep inside of me
It is the vastness and the freedom of the ocean’s realm
It is the wind and currents and my dreams to man the helm
And filling up my eyes with sunset reds that overwhelm

To ride the waves of pleasure is to venture the unknown
And always there’s a gift for all the seeds of life I’ve sown
It is the grace of dolphin and the wonder of the whales
It is the new horizon just beyond uncharted trails
And flowing with the breezes and the billowing of sails

To guide a ship of passion is to put the heart to rest
Skimming o’er the silver sheen of moonlight on the crest
To ride translucent blues and greens of sea’s tranquillity
Knowing and not knowing what the future day will be
And rolling, ever rolling with the rhythms of the sea

I knew just by the title I was going to love this...
such beautiful imagery and tender longing..kissed with your gift of cadence.

Elizabeth
This was wonderful and I enjoyed it immensely. I have written many poems about my love of the sea and you certainly summed up my feelings, thank you.  Take care.....Sue
